It has been called as “king of tropical fruits”. What’s more, the content of sugar, protein, vitamin etc in mango is abundant, has the favorable effect of keeping in good health. It is delicious no matter eat mango directly or make some mango juice. But first, you should know how to select superior mango. Here are some useful suggestions for you to refer to.
How to select mangoes
  • Check the color and luster. It seems the color of mangoes in the markets is always golden yellow, but here I just want to explain that not all the mangoes are golden. Generally, when ripe, most of the mangoes will become golden yellow, but there is still some special, such as there is a kind of “red mango”, we can eat when the color is red, just with different flavor from general one. Except this red mango, it is important to choose the golden yellow mangoes. While if you want some mangoes not mature enough, it’s not bad to choose the turquoise and smooth cortical mangoes. Those dark color mangoes taste very sweet, while those with bright color can keep for a while.
  • Observe the scarfskin. The scarfskin will be perfect when it’s the exact season of mangoes. But can’t exclude there may have some dark spots. There is a small dark spot on the surface of mango is common according to the different degree of mature. It’s ok if the spot is small and doesn’t expend. If you observe the mangoes carefully, you can find almost each has such dark spot. We allow this situation, but if there are many dark spots or they take up a big area, maybe the mango is destroyed, we shouldn’t buy such mangoes.
  • Look at the shape or appearance of mangoes. Obviously, when selecting mangoes, we should select some with small core, to get much more pulp. We can judge the size of core from the shape of mangoes. Generally speaking, mango with long fruit shape has small core, while if mangoes are short and thick, the core is bigger.
  • Check the hand feeling. You needn’t to press mangoes strongly. If that, there will be dent on the surface of the press and after a long time the mango will become bad. You just put the mango in your hand and feel it. You can feel the smooth, thin scarfskin of good mangoes, otherwise, if you take it up, the pulp is not so tight, perhaps inside is bad, but we can’t see it from the outside. When select mangoes, you can touch the pedicel, if the pedicel is sturdy and has high resilience, the mango can be bought, otherwise not.
  • Smell. This is very important to smell mangoes when selecting them. Delicious mangoes smell very sweet, even for a very long distance. So the more delicious the mango, the more intense the palate.
  • Choose the most proper size. Some people may think the bigger the mango is, the more delicious it will be. However, it is not correct. Oversize mangoes also have big cores. Some big mangoes is not so big originally, in order to press the scale, they are injected various chemical needles, but not so sweet, even harmful to our body. So we should select the mangoes of full, rounded, not soft not hard.
  • Try the ups and downs. One of the ways to identify mangoes is put one mango into water, if the mango is sinking or semi-sinking state, it indicates the mango has matured, and if the mango is floating on the surface, then the mango is not yet mature.
